Biography
Karl Fleury-Frenette is a physicist holding degrees from McGill University and Université Laval (Canada), and a Ph.D. in Science from the Université de Liège (Belgium).
He currently manages the Technology Partnership Program at the Centre Spatial de Liège (CSL), after more than two decades leading the Surface Micro & Nano Engineering Laboratory, which he founded there.
His work has focused on optical coating technologies for space instruments, encompassing design, deposition process engineering, and space qualification.
His team has delivered coatings for flagship missions such as the James Webb Space Telescope, GAIA, ExoMars, and PROBA 3 among others.
His ongoing research explores molecular surface contamination in space optics, a key aspect in preserving the performance of high-precision space instruments.
