As the year begins, LeidenForce enters a particularly dynamic phase. The Winter School 2026, which will take place next week in Bad Boekelo, on the campus of the University of Twente (Netherlands), will bring together researchers, experts, and PhD students for four days dedicated to the in-depth study of the Leidenfrost phenomenon.

We would like to warmly thank the team at the University of Twente, whose involvement was instrumental in the organization of this international scientific event.

The program will offer a comprehensive exploration of the Leidenfrost effect through its different regimes and underlying physical mechanisms, based on scientific contributions delivered by domain experts. These contributions will address key topics such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, droplet physics, two-phase flows, and evaporation processes:

Monday, January 26

Tuesday, January 27

  • Lecture 3 – Stéphane Dorbolo from ULiege A Short History of Leidenfrost, the Headlines and Spirit of LeidenForce, and a Short Description of the DC
  • Lecture 4 – Detlef Lohse from UTwenteDrops and Leidenfrost Drops
  • Lecture 5 – Dominique Legendre from IMFT Numerical Simulation of Moving Contact Line
  • Lecture 6 – Benjamin Sobac from UPPALeidenfrost Drops: Modeling Shape and Levitation from Puddles to Spheres

Wednesday, January 28

  • Lecture 7 – Maria Fernandino from NTNU Navier–Stokes–Korteweg Model for Simulation of Evaporation Processes
  • Lecture 8 – Jacco Snoeijer from UTwenteLubrication, Landau–Levich, Leidenfrost
  • Lecture 9 – Benoît Scheid from ULB Heat and Mass Transfer in Antibubbles, Towards Encapsulated Leidenfrost Droplets
  • Lecture 10 – Christian Diddens from UTwenteSharp-Interface Finite Element Simulations for Leidenfrost Droplets

Thursday, January 29

This Winter School also serves as a structuring platform for the project’s PhD students, whose role is decisive for the success of the LeidenForce research project.

They will present their research directions for the coming years within a framework that encourages interactions among PhD students, with their work largely embedded in transversal and collaborative research dynamics across the project.

We look forward to intensive and constructive scientific exchanges, which will mark key milestones in the development of the project within the Horizon Europe programme.
